The W124 Mercedes-Benz chassis was the first Benz given the official E-Class nomenclature and one of the bulletproof Benzes that came from Stuttgart during the 80s/90s. It is a chassis that is typically associated with the 4-door sedan (like the fire-breathing 500E Hammer) but they sold a few C124 designated coupes. Find this 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300CE C124 !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! bidding for $7,953 with no time left, located in Portland, OR.

I’m going to be honest with you and say that if someone had asked me yesterday if Mercedes had ever sold a coupe version of the W124 !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in North America, I would have said probably not. These didn’t fly off the dealer lots when new, with a total of 13,160 units sold from 1988 through 1995 according to what !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Powering the 300CE is a 3.0 liter M103 inline-6 that puts out 179 horsepower and 188 ft-lbs of torque in US spec. Mated to a 4-speed auto, it makes for a decent cruiser.

This example of the C124 is in surprisingly good shape for its age, but with only 111k miles on the odometer and a thorough cleaning by the seller, it does look nice.

I adore the 300CE, and the W124 in general. This beautiful 500E lives somewhere near me, and it’s always a treat to see.

That M103 could well run to over 300,000 miles without *too* much difficulty. Okay, so the injection will likely give some trouble before then, but it’s not horrible.

Had a W124 - ‘87 300D. That is one tough platform.
